Aluminum Railing Components - CITT Decision

Do you import components of aluminum railings, such as top and bottom rails, posts, pickets, gates, brackets, spacers and bracers? Are you paying 6.5% duty on those?

There is a recent CITT decision that may allow you to import these goods into Canada duty free.

The CITT has ruled that aluminum disassembled railings, or parts of railings, cannot be included in heading No. 76.10 (6.5% duty-MFN), and that they are properly classified in heading 76.04 - duty free.

**This does not exempt the goods from the possibility of SIMA (anti-dump and countervailing duty) being applied to them if they are manufactured in China and are not on the list of excluded products**
